Speaking of statistics relating to the film that "digitize" it speaks for Italy in late 2011 for fifth place in Europe by number of rooms converted, if the absolute number but rather we focus on the percentage we discover that our country nearly 40%, still well below the threshold of economic psychology and half and puts us in the final standings.
Perhaps it is better to look at the penetration rate otherwise Italy would steadily on to Norway and Luxembourg who have completed the process for a long time but have a park rises 10-fold lower than the Italian one.
They are not just numbers ....

For statistics about the conversion process of cinemas the Net is a little greedy in the sense that information with a certain complexity, details are not easy to find, especially because reports are distributed for a fee.
I struggle to understand who is interested and willing to pay and often have little to no access to useful, interesting, but outdated in a few months, but maybe I'm missing some element that will enable me to understand better.
In the meantime, I report the result of my recent research, these are small extracts from the site reported sleeved - Comprendre in Cinematic numerique: the first with statistics updated at the end of 2011 with the absolute number of theaters equipped with digital technology in the world, and some indication on the evolution and the rate of penetration in each country.
The second , however, is just older, submit data to the end of the third quarter of 2011 with graphs showing the relationship between 35mm and digital on one side and the other between 2D and 3D.
Statistics do not need special comments and analysis, research data to date continues ....

The swing of closures and reopenings, which has always characterized the life of the multiplex Starcity Rastignano has no end, after the problems related to the heating system, structural failure, it seems much more serious situation that has arisen with the ' arrest of members of the company that owns the property that has made it increasingly remote possibility that the resume screenings in what at the time was the only room in the province of Bologna equipped 4K digital projection.
This is one of the many articles appeared in local news that reconstructs the story, while staying current not just follow the group dedicated to Starcity on Facebook.

Planetary projection is the name of the project which aims at a world map of cinema projectionists, just when the figure, as we know, is disappearing.
It seems to me an interesting project, ambitious, though merely a biographical classic traces the patterns of publication and not the tool that harnesses the power of the web site offers.
Sooner or later I need time to prepare the card "future memory", for the moment to point out to the community of projectionists the project that has just started.

Some time ago there was talk of early 2013, the film earned another year of life.

So far in Traces of cinema I've ever photographed and reported some element or detail of street furniture which is a sign of the past presence of a movie theater, but there are many cases where the tracks are gone, leaving only the memory of someone who reminds that the building housed a movie theater.
Drawing on my memories here are some pictures for cinema that have left other signs:
the 'Actor's Studio, the first movie where I saw a movie on my arrival in Bologna, while still projecting the first viewing, shortly after its decline Started with the transformation in movie theater;
Former Cinema Actor'Studio
The Seven of Diamonds, the first film in which I participated in dismantling the first person;
Former Cinema Settebello
the 'Alfa Parish "atypical" of the university period in which it was possible to watch the double feature film of the past, closed permanently in the spring of 1990;
Former Alfa Cinema
With this series I have almost exhausted the recognition of the now former cinemas in Bologna .... unless they block again.

Projector 16mm with loop
Last week in MAMbo of Bologna opened the exhibition on Marcel Broodthaers , which provides, as part of the installation, 5 16mm projectors, modified by the addition of a flat loop so you have to project a continuous cycle.
The projectors in this case are Bauer, modified by a German company specialized in this type of installations for exhibitions and events that need to play movies in 16mm, continuously and without the presence of an operator.
This is the second time that I face with 16mm projector with flat, the last time happened a few years ago, always MAMbo in un'allestimento treated by the same company, and frankly, given the particular situation, I would not have imagined that the 'occasion be repeated.
As far as I'm concerned the job is in the maintenance of lights, replacement copies in case of breakage or deterioration, intervention in case of failure, from now until the end of the show in early May.
In closing a detail of the plate:
Full loop 16mm

The first news from the Wall Street Journal is resumed and deepened in a second article of a couple of days ago, introduces the scenario of the forced administration for Kodak.
A sort of failure has driven the fate that opens to the colossus of the photographic film and film that radically restructures its business model by giving up many of its activities to survive.
The company denies the tone of last resort through a statement on the official website that talks about mere reorganization, splitting the U.S. that the European and sending a letter reassuring its partners and customers, which emphasizes that it is not failure.
It would be ironic if the fate of the film, which many take for marked, even that would join the project to the laser projection for which has just concluded, bombastic announcements, the agreement with the IMAX circuit.
It could be another setback that joins the hasty exit made by the world of digital projection in which Kodak had come in with the server.
The attempt to monetize part of the numerous patents which belong to something that will transform Kodak has this story ?

Film Projector Prevost in theca Ducal
This is in my opinion one of the finest examples I have encountered, the custom of exposing old film projectors in the atrium.
In this case it was built a real case with a lot of "furniture" inside, I photographed during the disassembly of equipment, for final closure of the Lido Cinema Duke of Este.
In the coming days I'll put the photos documenting the removal of two lounges and Arena summer

This is the expectation for the coming year, evoked a deadline for some time, out of context of crisis.
Undoubtedly this will be a crucial year, with many new theaters to digital projection, which will open an accomplice to open lines of credit for the art-house circuit single-screen theaters, but I think that from this point of view, the scenario is too structured to not reveal some surprises.
The world of multiplexes able to complete the conversion on time? In Italy there are only multiplexes that are part of international networks, but also with reality entirely domestic properties that have not made a plan of conversion, but go forward to the day.
The multiplexes that so far have gone digital with 1 or 2 rooms and they do deal with a fall in receipts, so to require a staff reduction of working hours, they will see again for a while?
The small provincial towns or reality represented by single-screen theaters, cinemas parish, movie theaters have a budget that requires a financial investment like that? You have to think that these movies very often not only have very old fixtures, but also a sound system inadequate or incompatible with digital projection, then suddenly the investment required is on two fronts.
All rooms owned by municipalities which currently have to manage their budgets more carefully they are ready to leave the film?
My experience of recent months is that everything is firm enough and that waiting is trying to cope with the existing means, more and more obsolete, the age and the increasingly consolidated habit not to maintenance- "so, now, the film is disappearing."
But if you really must disappear because we do not do a scene with an output of honor?

Regularly I get lost in the network trying to find statistics on cinema, digital, projector manufacturers.
That bouncing from site to site is updated since I'm giving myself a month ago or so, but if you do not know how many in total are in the cinema world, the number by itself does not say much.
It remains a adato which is comparable, more than half of these rooms are equipped with a Christie projector ... the search continues

According to the latest data circulating on the network, the big circuits that have a route planned conversion from film to digital, in Europe, arrived, as the case between 70 and 90% of digital screens.
Italy, even below the European average, lives the same process, for some circuits we speak of the completion of the digitization program even by next year.
What will happen in these complexes? The projectionists will be trained to deal with the digital or personnel will be made redundant due to lack of specific tasks?
The "disappearance" of the figure of the projectionist did not occur in small structures will be a peculiarity of complex multi-screen?

I want to point out interesting article on uin sleeved finally envisages a scenario a little more articulate, in an attempt to speculate when the digital switchover in cinemas will be the ending of the film.
Finally, a reflection that does not just cut with an ax, but numbers on the one hand and economic analysis of the mechanisms on the other indicates the factors that are leading to reduced production and distribution of films in the film, trying to make assumptions on when the film in theaters will become marginal, separating the regions in North America, Eastern Europe and Central and Western Europe, are marching at very different between them.
I find it interesting that in analyzing the question is separate from the production of the film post production labs and distribution, describing the particularities of each sector.
The only limit is the fact that analysis remains a very "Western", does not take into account what is happening in the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa markets, which will each have their own specificity and that, together, are not marginal.
In conclusion I would try to keep in mind that these analyzes focus on the production and distribution of films in film today, but in thinking about the disappearance of the film is projected to keep in mind that the films have come out so far, that, not only in film libraries, continue to be screened, since their complete digitization is virtually impossible in human time, even for the costs, but this is already another story.

It must have been big news for 2011 was to enter into competition with existing digital projectors, was revolutionizing the world of cinema that would see the abandonment of xenon after over thirty years of undisputed sway, but the laser technology patented by Kodak, for the moment will come out in the second half of 2013 and only in IMAX, according to a mutually exclusive agreement announced by the two giants in question, this is the link for more details.
Increasingly after the announcements bombastic and fanciful interpretations that are made, the speed and pitch of affirmation of the new technologies are less swift than expected.

A sign of how things are changing with the transition to digital projection is the fact that finding replacement parts and accessories necessary for projecting film begins to be more difficult.
The traditional manufacturers are gradually disengaging from the construction of replacement parts, and that over time will make it increasingly difficult to maintain, but also the companies that produce accessories such as motion picture lenses have revised their list of products, reducing the range of available products.
This means that these components will be less and less popular and traditional channels of supply could not be more efficient.
At least in the short term, thanks to the internet, may have some chance the producers of non-original parts, for the medium-term forecasts better not dare.
